Phishing: Don’t take the bait

Phishing is when you get emails, pop-ups, texts, or calls that seem to be from companies or people you know. But they’re actually from scammers. They want you to click on a link or give personal information so that they can steal your money or identity, and maybe get access to your computer.

Avoid the hook and look for scam tip-offs. Do you have an account with the company? Does the message include your name, or does it use bad grammar and spelling? Are they asking you for personal information or to verify personal information, including passwords?

Protect yourself and your assets by keeping your computer security up to date and backup your data often. Consider multi-factor authentication – a second step to verify who you are. Change any compromised passwords right away and don’t use the same password for other accounts.

You may also consider some phishing simulations, training, and dark web scanning for your company. Contact Granite to discuss your options.
